Local Brokerage Sponsors 3rd Annual Home Build and 2014 Campaign Match Fund

Update 11/22/14: The house that Realty Austin built is complete and the Beriji family happily moved in, but due to weather, Realty Austin’s Habitat Home dedication has been rescheduled for January 2015. Check out the final photos of our hard work on our Facebook page.

Update 9/26/14: Home building has begun and will continue through the month of October. Follow our team’s progress and view Habitat Home Build Photos on Facebook.

This year’s Habitat home build is dedicated in honor of our friend and agent, Russell Lewis. Russell passed away peacefully on September 1, 2014 after a courageous 8-month battle with esophageal cancer. Russell was an enthusiastic volunteer and supporter of Habitat completing a total of 14 home builds since 1996. For the last two years he volunteered on the first day of the Realty Austin build which is “ Wall Raising Day,” one of the hardest but most satisfying days of the build. In addition to other volunteer days, he would also be there on “Dedication Day” to see the family receive their keys. In memory of Russell and his love for Habitat, we dedicate our build this year in his honor. His generosity will live in our hearts forever and will never be forgotten.

AUSTIN, TX–Realty Austin joins Austin Habitat for Humanity in the construction of a newly built home for a deserving family. As part of Realty Austin’s long-term commitment to giving back locally, the company, its team of agents, clients and industry partners donated over $75,000 to sponsor and build a new home at 13301 Barteny Cove in Austin, Texas. In addition to sponsoring the 3rd Annual Realty Austin Home Build, the company has agreed to be the lead match fund sponsor for the nonprofit’s fall 2014 campaign.

Since 2011 Realty Austin and its team of agents have been a Habitat sponsor contributing more than $130,000 and over 2600 volunteer hours. In 2013 more than 160 Realty Austin agents and staff constructed last year’s home saving Habitat more than $58,700 in contract labor. This year Realty Austin agents Cristina Valdes and Aaron Nann made it their mission to lead the team in fundraising and charitable contributions respectively.

Jonathan Boatwright, co-owner of Realty Austin said, “We believe Habitat is truly transforming lives of thousands of families in Austin. The work of Habitat offers long-term benefits for the affordable housing crisis Austin faces. A recent study found 23.7% of working households in Austin have a severe housing cost burden. As part of our ongoing charitable giving our team has made a real impact on the Austin community by enthusiastically embracing the Habitat program.”

Realty Austin’s first work day at the property will begin with a wall-raising ceremony at 8:00AM on September 17, 2014, and will continue through November. A dedication will occur upon completion on November 22, 2014.

Yvette Boatwright, co-owner of Realty Austin said, “Our team of big-hearted agents make what we do inspiring everyday. By helping hardworking families escape the hardships of unsafe and unhealthy living conditions, we are helping to break the cycle of poverty. We are committed to giving back and changing lives through Habitat.”

Realty Austin’s home build project will benefit a local family of six who was pre-selected by the Austin Chapter of Habitat for Humanity, the Saied Beriji family of Austin.

Kelly Weiss,

Executive Director of Austin Habitat for Humanity said, “We are thankful for the unwavering support of the Realty Austin team and their outreach to the industry. The Realty Austin team arrives at each build site motivated and full of spirit. This year’s recipient, the Saied Beriji family, is a hard working, appreciative family that is full of spirit too, so it is a perfect fit. It is with great pleasure we provide this opportunity for them.”

Boatwright concluded, “Each year our team grows more inspired by Habitat and the participating families. Our passion to help others achieve their dreams of homeownership is stronger than ever.”
