Realty Austin Continues Support of Affordable Housing

Realty Austin continued its mission in support of affordable housing by dedicating the first Tiny Hemp Home at the Community First! Village, located at 9301 Hog Eye Rd Austin, TX, 78724. The home is Austin’s first eco-friendly, sustainable and affordable tiny hemp home for the homeless. See our photos here.

Realty Austin’s sponsorship brought this home, built of Hempcrete, to life through the guidance of Henry Valles, REALTOR® at Realty Austin. The innovative material, Hempcrete, has many benefits and is proven to be strong, lightweight, mold-resistant, fire-resistant, pest-resistant, non-toxic, energy-efficient, and carbon neutral!

“Realty Austin and Mobile Loaves & Fishes (MLF) are clearly two of the most innovative and creative groups in Austin, Texas and it speaks volumes that we would partner to build one of two hemp houses in the state of Texas. Realty Austin volunteers and MLF staff have poured countless hours into making this one of the most unique and special homes at Community First! Village. They have poured their hearts into this project and there is no one more deserving of this love than one of our former chronic friends who will soon call this HOME,” said Alan Graham, Mobile Loaves & Fishes founder and CEO.

At the dedication, Realty Austin staff, Agents and their families enjoyed lunch and a tour of the village to see first-hand the possibilities of sustainable housing for the formerly homeless.

Yvette Boatwright, co-owner of Realty Austin said, “We are lucky to be a part of a project supporting meaningful solutions for our city. Our dedication comes at a meaningful time when Austin’s homeless community members are in dire need of viable solutions like the Community First! Village to get them off the streets of our beloved city and into a safe home.”

What is Community First! Village?

Community First! Village is a 27-acre master-planned community in East Austin, developed by Mobile Loaves & Fishes founder and CEO, Alan Graham. The village is made up of 400 square foot homes to over 185 formerly homeless residents. An expansion is planned for the village into the 24 neighboring acreages that would allow houses for an additional 350 residents.

For several years Mobile Loaves & Fishes has played an integral role in Austin’s community by providing food and clothing to our homeless friends in need. Now, Alan Graham’s vision to create the village of tiny, micro homes has gained worldwide notoriety as a place that cultivates community, promotes dignity, and is a place they can call home.
