We’re Here for You | An Update from Realty Austin

Read time: 2 minutes

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

We hope this message finds you safe and healthy.

Here is what we know and think about the Austin real estate market at this moment.

A Stay at Home Order is in place, but real estate-related services have been deemed essential by local officials. This means that qualified buyers are still able to get mortgages, title companies are still able to close transactions, and movers are still moving.

But this does not mean that our industry can continue with business as usual. Busy real estate agents typically come into personal contact with dozens of people throughout the course of an average week. In addition to their clients, they collaborate with other agents, inspectors, contractors, photographers, lenders and title company representatives, each of whom comes in contact with dozens of others. This simply cannot happen now.

As a company, we have a moral obligation to limit face-to-face interaction in order to help slow the spread of this virus. We are calling on our peers in the industry to do the same.

So, while there are some things that cannot be done in the real estate world right now, there is a lot you – and we – still can do.

  • You can speak with your agent to discuss how to prepare and price your home for sale in this market, and when is the best time to list your home.
  • You can continue your home search on the all-new RealtyAustin.com where many homes have video walkthroughs and virtual tours.
  • You can still tour some properties, where homeowners and local authorities allow it, but only under extreme safety precautions.
  • You can continue to write offers and negotiate contracts, contingent upon a future in-person tour.

Most importantly, let’s have a conversation if your housing needs have changed. Your Realty Austin agent is equipped with up-to-the-minute market intelligence that can guide your decision making through this process. They would be happy to jump on a video conference or screen share.

The truth is nobody knows exactly what the real estate market will look like when our Stay at Home order is lifted, the virus recedes, and we return to our full lives. We do know, however, that buyers will buy, sellers will sell, and Austin will remain one of the most desirable communities in the country. The real estate market may be different, but it will be vibrant.

Stay safe. And let’s keep talking.

Sincerely,

Jonathan and Yvette Boatwright
Co-Owners, Realty Austin
