Ways to Give Back in Austin | We’re For Here

Read time: 3 minutes

At Realty Austin, we are passionate about giving back to our community, especially during a time of crisis as the world battles the COVID-19 virus. We pledge to uplift our neighbors by giving back to local nonprofit organizations that provide basic needs such as food, affordable housing, and safety for our neighbors in need.

Organizations like Austin Habitat for Humanity, SAFE|Children’s Shelter, Community First! Village, Foundation Communities, and the Central Texas Food Bank need assistance more than ever during this time. Learn more about Our Austin Pledge, a call for community-building, neighborliness, and love and help us support our Austin neighbors by joining the wave of generosity and giving back below!

The realities of the COVID-19 pandemic hit close to home for many Central Texans. With increased unemployment, the Central Texas Food Bank has seen a sharp increase in the need for assistance.

New restrictions have caused the Central Texas Food Bank to dramatically change the way they run their program, leaving them to rely on community donations and volunteering efforts. Recently, Realty Austin completed a Campaign for a Cause benefiting the  Central Texas Food Bank, raising over $53K in donations with the help of their agents, friends, family, and community. Visit the Central Texas Food Bank to see how you can get involved by giving back!

The mission and vision of Austin Habitat for Humanity are anchored around their dedication to ending the cycle of poverty housing and the deeply held belief that everyone deserves a decent, affordable place to live. Because of the COVID-19 epidemic, volunteers have not been able to help build homes. But you can contribute and help in other ways. Your gift builds strong, stable, and self-reliant communities. Every gift or donation, no matter how large or small, is an investment in the future of a child, the education of our youth, and the economic vitality of our community.

Community First! Village is a 51-acre master-planned community that provides affordable, permanent housing and a supportive community for men and women coming out of chronic homelessness. A development of Mobile Loaves & Fishes, this transformative residential program exists to love and serve our neighbors who have been living on the streets, while also empowering the surrounding community into a lifestyle of service with the homeless. Usually you can participate in helping by either volunteering your time to help build a home or sponsor a home build. But because of social distancing, it’s best to make a donation.

Many of their formerly homeless friends are particularly vulnerable to COVID-19 because of their age and compromised immune systems. In order to best care for them, they have already significantly increased their cleaning efforts throughout the Village. They will also be providing meals to those who need special attention and care. Their Resident Care team will continue to assess the best ways to care for them.

Foundation Communities is a local, homegrown nonprofit. They provide affordable, attractive homes and free on-site support services for thousands of families with kids, as well as veterans, seniors, and individuals with disabilities. They offer an innovative, proven model that empowers their residents and neighbors to achieve educational success, financial stability, and healthier lifestyles.

Your donation will have a big impact on their residents, many of whom are struggling with health concerns on top of an unexpected loss of wages as employers cut staff or shut down altogether. Please donate to their Emergency Assistance Fund to help with rent, groceries, medical assistance, cleaning supplies, and basic household items. Please consider a donation of any amount. Together we can get through this!

When SAFE| says their doors are open during the COVID-19 pandemic, they mean it: Their housing programs, including their Children’s Shelter, Family Shelter, Foster and Adopt in Austin, Supportive Housing and Rapid Re-Housing are open. Their Eloise House sexual assault clinic remains open. Planet SAFE|, their supervised visitation and exchange center, continues to provide safe exchanges. Many of their services, including CARES for sex trafficking survivors, Strong Start for parents, Expect Respect for teens, and more, will continue to work with clients in modified ways, as well as to develop effective and creative ways to address prevention during this time of isolation, fear and heightened vulnerability.

Your gift is providing nights of safety for families, hotline calls and online chats for people needing support, prevention programs that promote healthy relationships for teens, education, and advocacy in the community, and many more life-changing services. You can also donate by:

  • Making craft kits for the youth and adults living in the SAFE| Shelters
  • Making spring decorations
  • Delivering snacks with positive affirmations
  • Being an in-kind donation Superstar
