Those looking for an quiet, established neighborhood that’s still conveniently central will love the Barton Hills area. This neighborhood is minutes from Zilker Park and the Barton Creek Greenbelt, making it the perfect area to experience nature and yet still be within 5 minutes of downtown Austin. Its eclectic mix of homes includes historic, original homes from the 40s as well as newly constructed modern and contemporary homes.  If you’re interested in buying here, keep in mind that homes typically sell in 30 days or less, so you’ve got to be quick!

North Loop

As one of Austin’s original funky neighborhoods, Northloop has something for everyone, from college students to young professionals and families. The charm of Austin lives in this area’s unique shopping strips, record shops, live music venues, and local restaurants. Unlike Downtown Austin, you will find plenty of parking! Outdoor enthusiasts will appreciate the fact that Lady Bird Lake and Zilker Park are so close by that you can actually ride a bike to and from home.

Travis Heights/South River City

Though Travis Heights is traditionally known as an established and often expensive neighborhood to live in, that may be changing. Co-named South River City, Travis Heights was just named the 2nd Best Neighborhood for Millennials by Forbes.  Their survey considered factors such as nearby cultural attractions, average rate of rent, employment and crime rates. For non-millenials, Travis Heights/South River City offers excellent schools and close proximity to downtown employers and nightlife.

Old West Austin

One of the most architecturally diverse neighborhoods in town, Old West Austin is the kind of place where you will find 1920s bungalows next to ultra modern homes. In fact, it was recently names one of 10 Great American Neighborhoods by the American Planning Association.  Additionally, this neighborhood is just 2 minutes from downtown and West Sixth galleries, boutiques and salons.

Mueller

This rapidly expending master planned community in East Austin has been recognized as one of the greenest communities in the country.  Home styles here range from condos to row houses to garden homes. Though downtown Austin is only 3 miles from here, you may not need to go far to get what you need. The Mueller Retail Center now has more than 25 retailers and eateries, including a large H-E-B grocery store with an in-house restaurant and bar.
