Read time: 2 minutes

The always diverse East side of Austin has recently become home to many new residents and amenities and is flourishing as the new “cool place to be” in Austin. So much so that Forbes magazine has just ranked East Austin as one of America’s Top Hipster Neighborhoods.

Ranked at Number 7 on Forbes’ Hippest Hipster Neighborhood list, East Austin has surpassed even the likes of areas such as South Congress and Travis Heights. The research done by Forbes, with the help of and, compared 250 neighborhoods in the country. But how does one classify an area as a “hipster” neighborhood? The rankings were based on food trailers, locally-owned bars and restaurants (two definite Austin favorites include The Liberty and East Side Showroom), walkability score, saturation of coffee shops per capita, farmers markets and residents with artistic occupations. Sounds about right for a description of East Austin, or Austin in general.
