In the blink of an eye, East Austin has immensely grown to be a very popular area. The always diverse East side of Austin has recently become home to many new residents and amenities and is flourishing as the new “cool place to be” in Austin. So much so that Forbes magazine has just ranked East Austin as one of America’s Top Hipster Neighborhoods.
Ranked at Number 7 on Forbes’ Hippest Hipster Neighborhood list, East Austin has surpassed even the likes of areas such as South Congress and Travis Heights. The research done by Forbes, with the help of Nextdoor.com and Walkscore.com, compared 250 neighborhoods in the country. But how does one classify an area as a “hipster” neighborhood? The rankings were based on food trailers, locally-owned bars and restaurants (two definite Austin favorites include The Liberty and East Side Showroom), walkability score, saturation of coffee shops per capita, farmers markets and residents with artistic occupations. Sounds about right for a description of East Austin, or Austin in general.
East Austin is home to many business owners, musicians, artists and their families. With this wide range of residents, comes a wide range of amenities as well. If you’re not familiar with the selection of amenities in the East Austin area, we will list a few favorites. Families can enjoy the HOPE farmers market that takes place every Sunday at Pine Street Station, or spend an evening at one of the East Side Drive-In’s many events. The East Side Showroom and the ND at 501 Studios are great places to experience the East Austin nightlife. Each November, the East Austin Studio Tour (E.A.S.T.) showcases to the public more than 200 artists from the area.
