America’s Best Cities for Return on Salary

CareerCast recently released a list of the 10 best cities for return on salary and 4 of America’s best are Texas cities. CareerCast calculated return on salary by cross-referencing the salaries of 200 careers with the average cost of living in the cities that paid comparatively higher across a wide range of sectors. The results were 10 top cities with the opportunity to get the most bang for your buck and two recurring themes found on this list are cities with major universities and Texas.

Texas in the Rankings

Texas dominated the list with Austin, Fort Worth-Arlington Metro, Houston, and Midland all ranking among the best cities for higher pay and lower cost of living. According to Fox Business, being one of the most tax-friendly states for business with no corporate or individual income tax is what makes Texas attractive overall.

Each of these Texas cities ranks among the best places to live and work for various strong points in terms of pay, diversity of career options and cost of living. Austin and Midland have the highest median household incomes coming in at $63,603 and $77,574 respectively and Austin, known for its growing tech sector, has the second lowest unemployment rate on the list at 2.9%. Although Houston’s average cost of living is just 1% below the national average, it offers a wide range of high paying career opportunities in sectors such as business, energy, transportation, and space exploration. The Fort Worth-Arlington Metro, on the other hand, is one of the highest paying cities in America for careers like actuary, veterinary, and psychiatry.

Whether you’re looking for the highest paying city or a place with the lowest cost of living, it is clear that Texas is one of the best places to live and work.

Are you ready to make the move?

Austin has a cost of living 6% below the national average and ranks higher than any other Texas city as one of the best places to live in America.
