Emerging Trends in Real Estate

With Austin regularly ranking among the hottest real estate markets and cities in the country, it may come as no surprise that the Emerging Trends in Real Estate annual report put Austin in the No. 1 spot among the best cities for real estate investment.

The report, prepared jointly by PwC and the Urban Land Institute (ULI), incorporates rankings and opinions from 1,500 professionals involved in the real estate business and is “one of the most highly regarded and widely read forecast reports in the real estate industry.” According to the report, Emerging Trends in Real Estate “provides an outlook on real estate investment and development trends, real estate finance and capital markets, property sectors, metropolitan areas, and other real estate issues throughout the United States and Canada.”

Austin Tops the 2017 Market Rankings

This marks the third consecutive Texas market to lead the survey following Dallas/Fort Worth and Houston and although Austin has been among the top ten for the past few years, this is the first time claiming the No. 1 spot.

Top 10 Hottest Real Estate Markets for Investors

  1. Austin, Texas
  2. Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas
  3. Portland, Oregon
  4. Seattle, Washington
  5. Los Angeles, California
  6. Nashville, Tennessee
  7. Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina
  8. Orange County, California
  9. Charlotte, North Carolina
  10. San Francisco, California

With most of the top ten markets having economic growth far exceeding the national average it is clear that potential for faster growth is significant when considering the best places to invest in real estate. The report notes that the Austin market has benefited from a diverse economy, a growing population, an educated labor force, and the undeniable ‘hip’ factor that makes Austin attractive. Industry harmony, adjustments being made to match supply in single-family and multifamily housing with the desires of the population base, and remaining on domestic investors’ wish lists were other factors mentioned among reasons Austin topped this year’s list.
