They’ve been voted in the top 10 farmers market in the country several times and even in the top 5! The Bastrop 1832 Farmers Market is a project of Bastrop Sustainable Agricultural Community (BSAC), a non-profit 501c3 corporation. The mission of the Bastrop 1832 Farmers Market is to create and sustain a market space for small family farmers, ranchers, producers, and artisans, including those who are economically disadvantaged, to sell and promote their farm and ranch products, artisan wares, ready-to-eat foods, and other homemade products in a family-oriented environment. The vendors are an enthusiastic and friendly group of farmers, ranchers, and artisans. Their market features locally grown food: vegetables, fruits, farm eggs, meats, honey, prepared foods, plus handcrafted artisan goods!

Since Boggy Creek Farm planted their first big garden in 1982, they have experimented with various approaches to growing nutritious, fresh vegetables. Their initial teachers were the trees of the woods that needed no fertilizers/no deep cultivation, and the native grasses (weeds) who did just fine without their assistance. With few books to consult in those days, their influencers were John Dromgoole, Eliot Coleman, and Malcom Beck, all of whom espoused growing methods that protected the soil!

The Wimberley Farmers Market is open every Wednesday from 3 to 6 PM. You’ll find it in the parking lot in front of the Wimberley Community Thrift Shop. There’s plenty of parking and variable numbers of vendors! This market is the one closest for most Wimberley residents who prefer to eat seasonally and buy locally. Although the number of vendors can often be counted on one hand, the produce offered is exceptional. There are also usually delicious baked goods available, too. More interesting market items include candles and handmade crafts!
