Austin: Dog-Friendly and Doggone Cool

Austin, known for its rolling hills and inner-city parks, is the nation’s third most dog-friendly city according to Also known for its laid-back dining environment and pet-accomodating stores, Austin was a shoe-in for the award. First place went to San Diego and second place went to Portland, Oregon, but Austin was the only Texas city in the top 10.

Most restaurants with outdoor patios in Austin are notorious for allowing dogs, especially lap dogs or dogs who think they are lap dogs (ref: photo of Austin the Dog, who also thinks he’s human, ordering brunch at La Taverna on 2nd St.). If you hang around the shops on 2nd Street, or take a break to play washers at Freddie’s Place, you will definitely run in to some k-9 companions and their best friends.
