Welcome to “The Live Music Capital of the World”- Austin, Texas. The City of Austin continues to grow at a rapid pace in large part because visitors to Austin decide to make this city their permanent home. Listed below are 10 reasons to visit or relocate to Austin, Texas in 2012!

Austin City Limits Music Festival (ACL)
After Austin City Limits Music Festival (ACL) celebrated its 10th Anniversary last year, the festival continues to be one of the best music festivals in the nation, attracting star performers such as: Red Hot Chili Peppers, Kanye West, and the Eagles. ACL is an annual three-day music festival that takes place in the heart of Austin at Zilker Park, usually in September or October. In 2012, the music festival will consist of eight stages and over 130 bands from all over the world. Representing all types of music, from rock to country, it is no surprise ACL continues to attract over 70,000 visitors from across the nation every year.

South by Southwest Festival (SXSW)
Established in 1987, South by Southwest (SXSW) is a series of music, film, and interactive festivals that last nearly two weeks long. SXSW Music Festival consists of over 2,000 performers playing at over 90 venues all over Austin, making it one of the largest music festivals in the nation. SXSW Film is more focused on screenings, Q & A’s with directors, and viewings of award-winning independent films. Lastly, SXSW Interactive has turned its focus toward emerging technology. SXSW continues to be the highest revenue-producing event for the city’s economy and has grown significantly over the years bringing in roughly 30,000 registrants to Austin every spring.

Zilker Metropolitan Park
Considered to be “Austin’s most-loved park,” Zilker Park is a must-see for Austin visitors. Located in the heart of Austin, this 350-acre park has attractions for everyone. A couple of favorites include:

Barton Springs Pool
A huge, man-made swimming pool filled with natural spring water remaining at a constant 68 to 72 degrees year-round

Zilker Botanical Gardens
The centerpiece of Zilker Park with 31 acres of lush gardens.

Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center
Established by former first lady and actress, Helen Hayes, in 1982, the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center protects the nation’s native plants and natural landscapes. Today, the center consists of 12 acres covered with over 650 species of native plants and flowers.

Outdoor Adventure

Lady Bird Lake (Town Lake)
Provides an incredible recreational resource including trails around the lake for hiking and biking, and kayak and canoe rentals for exercising.

Barton Creek Greenbelt
Stretching 7.9 miles, the Greenbelt is a haven for Austin residents and visitors. The Barton Creek Greenbelt is an outdoor adventurer’s paradise offering a variety of hiking trails, rock climbing cliffs, and popular swimming holes.

South Austin Trailer Park Eater
Truly an Austin gem, the South Austin Trailer Park Eatery may not seem appetizing at first, but serves up some of the best food in Austin. The South Austin Trailer Park Eatery is home to Torchy’s Tacos, Holy Cacao, Man Bites Dog, and Shuggies Burgers and Shakes.

Formula 1
Beginning in 2012, Austin hosts the Formula 1 Grand Prix. This $250 million dollar project is one of the most ambitious in the Texas sports and entertainment sector and is estimated to bring in approximately $300 million annually through 2021

Hamilton Pool Nature Preserve
If you are looking to beat the Texas Heat on a summer day in Austin, Texas, Hamilton Pool is perfect for the nature lover in everyone. Hamilton Pool is a historic swimming hole located roughly 3/4 mile from the Pedernales River. The unique aspect of the pool is the 50-foot waterfall Hamilton Creek creates as it spills over the limestone and plunges into a canyon.

Austin Arts and Entertainment
Paramount Theatre – Austin’s oldest surviving theatre with shows performed nightly. During the summer, check out their Classic Summer Movie Series!

Moontower Comedy Festival
This larger-than-life comedy festival brings some of the biggest comedians to Austin including: Seth Meyers, Aziz Ansari, Hannibal Buress, and many more.

Old Pecan Street Festival
The bi-annual free arts and crafts festival held on 6th Street features artisans from across the nation.

Texas Hill Country Wine Trail
The Texas Hill Country Wine Trail attracts nearly 5 million visitors every year, with over 30 unique and visually stunning wineries scattered throughout the Texas Hill Country.
